Healthcare Assistant/Support Worker


Job title: Healthcare Assistant 

Reports to: Manager

Responsible for: N/A 

Service: Domicilliary Care Services 

Salary: £12.00 per hour


Main purpose of the job: 

  • To provide personal care to Service Users as required in all activities of daily living and their care plan.

Main duties and responsibilities:

 

  • In accordance with the individuals care plan, to support service users in all aspects of their daily lives in a positive and caring manner, ensuring that dignity, respect, choice, independence, inclusion, equal opportunities, and privacy are always maintained.

  • To provide personal care and support in a compassionate manner

  • Participate in the creation of a warm, friendly, and relaxed atmosphere

  • Always adhere to “ordinary life” principles, ensuring that service users are given the opportunities to develop their maximum potential.

  • Participate as an active member of the team, ensuring cooperation with all community services and, requesting advice from senior team members, as necessary.

  • Ensure that service users receive appropriate nutrition, preparing beverages, meals and snacks as required encouraging service user’s participation as far as reasonably practicable.

  • Maintain confidentiality relating to service users in accordance with company policy and General Data Protection Regulations.

  • Work collaboratively with all other people involved in the life of the service user.

  • Cooperate with senior members of the team, providing an optimum level of support with agreed duty rotas including night duty and sleep in arrangements.

  • Participate in a “team approach” to encompass the varied activities regarding housekeeping, e.g., catering, shopping, laundry, and other household duties as required.

  • Participate fully in the team approach to integration within the community.

  • Maintain awareness of the company’s Operational Policies, cooperating fully with the duties allocated within these policies.

  • To be fully conversant with and adhere to the fire procedures and Health & Safety policies defined in the operational policies.

  • To support Service Users throughout their contact with the service by supporting them to identify choices and wishes for their future and assist them to record this in their individual support plan.

  • To participate in the regular evaluation and review of their care plan and supporting documentation.

  • Medication handling and administration – appropriate to each individual service user.

  • To participate in any training and development courses as required.

  • Participate in 3 monthly supervision and annual appraisals.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or NVQ level 2

  • At least 6 months in healthcare

  • Communication skills 

  • Experience in understanding company policies and procedures 

  • Excellent written and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate and distribute information clearly. 

  • The ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with healthcare staff and clients.

  • Driving Licence


Additional Information

  • The appointment is offered on a flexible arrangement basis immediately, subject to references 

  • The appointment is usually made at the bottom of the range. Where a candidate’s current total remuneration already exceeds the bottom point, consideration will be given to the level of skills, experience and profile that the candidate is bringing to the role. The total remuneration of other staff doing the same or similar work within the department who have similar skills, experience and profile should also be taken into account. 

  • The annual leave entitlement is 28 days p.a.

  • Your normal hours of work will be 40 hours per week
